The Bahnsen Project

Please read below regarding The Bahnsen Project from the Lord over Life ministry. There is also another Bahnsen Project for which we highly recommend your support in both prayer and funds. The purpose of that Bahnsen Project is to make "Dr. Bahnsen’s audio lectures, courses, syllabi, and position papers available to the public free of charge."

Who is Greg Bahnsen?
Greg L. Bahnsen, (1948-1995), was an ordained minister in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church and a full time Scholar in Residence for the Southern California Center for Christian Studies. He received his Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Southern California, specializing in the theory of knowledge. He previously received the B.A. (magna cum laude, philosophy) from Westmont College, and then simultaneously earned the M.Div. and Th.M. degrees from Westminster Theological Seminary. Dr. Bahnsen lectured to a broad range of evangelical Christian groups at many colleges and conferences. He was an experienced apologist and debater, a clear and cogent teacher of the Christian worldview who was devoted to training believers in understanding and applying the Christian faith to every area of life. He published numerous scholarly articles, a number of well-known books, and has over 1,500 recorded lectures and sermons.

What is The Bahnsen Project?

The Bahnsen Project from the Lord over Life ministry has two aspects:

(1) A Full-Length Biography

The working title of the biography:
Let God Be True: The Life and Ministry of Greg L. Bahnsen

This would give the church an account of the great works for which God used Dr. Bahnsen, examining the many facets of his life, both personal and professional.

(2) Giving the church more written works of Dr. Bahnsen.

Unfortunately, as of his untimely death in December of 1995, Dr. Bahnsen did not leave behind nearly as many written books as he could have finished had the Lord not taken him home so soon.

Thankfully, he did leave a vast amount of audio lectures.

However, due to the fact that most scholarly work, or even lay-level edification, is done through the medium of written material, we are proposing a project to transpose many of his teaching series in audio format to print format.

The lectures used in this project will come from
Covenant Media Foundation. However, this will not be a direct dictation method. Books and writing require a distinct method of communication from that of audible lectures and sermons. Nevertheless, the greatest care will be given in this process to ensure, as much as possible, that it is Greg Bahnsen's voice coming through, even in the printed works.

As of now, what we think the church would benefit most from concerning his audio lectures/sermons being transmitted to text format, is the following:

• Theological Works: Covenant Theology, Systematic Theology, Commentary on Calvin’s Institutes
• Exegetical Works: Commentaries on Proverbs, Galatians, Hebrews, Luke, and Revelation
• Practical Theology (shorter works): Particular Redemption, Christian Education, Economics, Warfare

Our hope is that with these (and hopefully even more) works of Bahnsen accessible in print format (along with a full biography of his life and ministry), the church would be greatly blessed by having even more access to one of the most gifted and able teachers in the world of Christian scholarship, philosophy, theology, and ethics.

If you are able to participate in this project through transcribing audio lectures (not editing, but strict transcribing - we will do the editing), or if you knew Dr. Bahnsen or know someone who does, we prayerfully urge you to contact us so we can enlist your service in this precious work and gift to the church.

Grace and Peace!
